Frequently Asked Questions
What if it still doesn't pass after repairs?
If we made a recommendation and that repair did not solve the emissions issue as promised then we will perform additional testing under our warranty at no cost to you.
How long does it take?
Initial test results are typically available within a couple of hours, and most repairs can be completed the same day. However, the vehicle may need to be driven multiple times over several days for all required emissions monitors to complete. We recommend planning to leave your vehicle with us for 2 to 5 business days so we can verify it’s ready for emissions testing and get it passed before returning it to you.
Do I need my test notice or failed result?
It can be helpful to provide your test notice or failed result, but it isn’t required. Your vehicle’s computer typically retains the information we need to begin testing and determine why it isn’t passing emissions.
What if the repair costs are too high?
There’s no obligation to move forward with any repairs. The $148 testing charge is nonrefundable because it covers the specialized testing needed to determine why your vehicle failed. We’ll provide a detailed report and estimate that you’re welcome to use for a second opinion, shop around, or simply wait until you’re ready. Illinois also offers repair waivers and hardship extensions for some vehicles and owners. If cost is a concern, we’re happy to help you explore available options.
What if I decline the repair?
No problem. We’ll provide you with a detailed digital report of everything we found, including photos and recommendations. That report is yours to keep and use however you’d like, whether that means getting a second opinion, handling the repairs elsewhere, or simply keeping it for your records. If you decide you’d like us to take care of the repairs later, we’ll be happy to pick up where we left off.
Can I pass emissions if my check engine light is on?
No. An active check engine light will cause the vehicle to fail an emissions test. If your check engine light is on, let us take a look before visiting the emissions testing station so we can determine what’s causing it.
